Animal Kingdom
The pupils of my Year 4 class have been working diligently over the course of four weeks in Literacy to produce this fabulous book! First, they studied a variety of non-chronological reports and learned the key features. A week was then allocated for the children to research an animal of their choice, using a wide variety of non-fiction books, encyclopaedias and websites. Their computing skills were put to good use when they used graphic organizers to arrange their thoughts using point form, which was then transferred into paragraphs in a draft copy. It was then time for pupils to revise and edit their own work, as well as one of their peers’, in order to ensure spelling and punctuation were included in the appropriate places. Alongside their non-chronological reports, students also created habitat shoe boxes in Art; were taught how to find valid information and research in Computing; became knowledgeable of an extensive assortment of animals and food chains in Science; as well as learned about a variety of habitats around the world in Geography. The reports you will read in this book were created entirely by Year 4, and is a showcase of the progress they have made so far this year.
